The Institute for Advanced Computational Science (IACS) at Stony Brook University is offering an 8-week Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) for rising sophomore, junior, or senior college undergraduates.
Data + Computing = Discovery presents an opportunity for qualified students who are interested in pursuing a PhD in a STEM field at Stony Brook University to work with world-renowned scientists and researchers. The first week of the REU will be an intensive class where students will learn the Python programming language. From the second week on students will be undertaking research in the labs of the participating mentors and have direct access to the institute's high performance computing clusters. Participants will also have the opportunity to work closely with their faculty mentor, attend seminars on Research Methods and Graduate School Preparation, participate in workshops and present their research results at the REU Symposium and Closing Ceremony at the completion of the program.
Applications are due by April 1 and must be submitted by email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Applications consist of:
Ideally each participant should bring his/her own laptop (Mac, PC or Linux are acceptable). We do have laptops that we can loan to students for the duration of the REU. (Please make a note in your personal statement if you need to use an IACS laptop.) No other supplies are needed. All necessary software will be provided.
